Mission and Goals

Mission

To stimulate and coordinate statewide efforts promoting the social and economic well-being, political capacity, and civic leadership of the Latino community in Oregon.

Goals

OLAA aims to establish a broad-based statewide coalition of Latino organizations, community groups, and individuals to strategically advocate and work for systems change and to develop policy recommendations on issues affecting our communities.  To these ends, we champion an open, non-partisan, and participatory model of engagement, content supported by sound research and social analysis, and initiatives advanced by the legislative and political processes.

The October 2010 Summit will reinforce Latino networking and identify priorities that will serve as a template for action and for the formation of public policy promoting overall health and well-being for the Latino community of Oregon.

Part of the pre-Summit work will involve developing White (or Brown) Papers on issues including but not limited to health, education, economic development, immigration, and social development.  The papers will provide a contextualized understanding of Oregon's Latino community as it relates to each of these topics.  One of OLAA's post-Summit goals is a comprehensive report about the State of the Latino Community in Oregon.  OLAA also envisions the creation of an Institute to carry forth the work of the coalition beyond the Summit.
